"Travel means the consciousness of adventure and exploration, the sense of covering the miles, the ability to seize indefatigably upon every new or familiar source of delight." - The Death of a Hero, Richard Aldington

Why the name?

Taken from Bald and Bankrupt’s saying “Soviet Adventurizing”; finding beauty in mostly rural life in Japan — be it the slow-paced peace of the countryside or bygone times of decaying military buildings. Realistically, most finds probably date from the Heisei era, but the point is to go to places that even domestic tourists wont consider.

What is it?

Get out there and LIVE Japan. Have core elements of the trip prepared: local history of the place and transportation if you are renting a car. What else? Leave the rest to randomness. Find accommodations on the spot, stroll a town’s shopping street for food options. Ask locals, hotel receptionists, or the local tourist information association for tips.

Rules and limits?

  1. Respect local ordinances/laws. Everything must comply with Japanese law.
  2. Film only permissible subjects. If in conversation, consent will be obtained. If to be included, blurring of face is an option.

Invite derailment of plans. If things don't go to plan, they are now.

“Adventure is allowing the unexpected to happen to you." - The Death of a Hero, Richard Aldington

“Real travel means overcoming problems... and finding a way." - Mr. Bald
